Why Catalonia Land of Meat?
Six reasons to buy Catalan meat:
In addition, Catalonia has a higher meat production than Belgium and Holland, with 1.8 million tonnes per year, of which 1.3 million are pork meat, but it also produces beef, horse, caprine, ovine, rabbit and poultry meat. Currently, Catalonia's meat exports represent more than 60% of total sales of the Spanish state and during the year 2009, more than 19 million cattle were slaughtered.
Catalonia's meat industry offers significant know-how in food production and technology. Catalonia is currently a leading provider of ingredients and a leading region of packing companies. These two features make our region an advanced cluster in the food sector.
The meat industry is Catalonia's fourth industrial sector. Having said this, Spanish pork production ranks fourth worldwide and Catalonia has a great potential for export of processed products. Due to this competitiveness in price and quality, the percentage of exports of the meat sector will grow in coming years and will represent in the future 45% of exports within the food industry in Catalonia.
